CHICAGO, Ill. -- University of Michigan senior Marcello Borges was selected by the Colorado Rapids in the second round (28th pick) of the MLS SuperDraft, held Friday (Jan. 11) at McCormick Place.
Borges was a United Soccer Coaches All-North Region (third team) and All-Big Ten (second team) selection in 2018. He played in 61 matches (50 starts) in his four-year career at Michigan. He started 17 matches in 2018, helping the Michigan defense set a school record for fewest goals allowed in a single season (18 in 21 matches). A former U.S. U-20 national team member, Borges came up as a product of the New York Red Bulls Academy.
Borges is the 12th player in the history of the program to be taken in the MLS SuperDraft, and fifth since head coach Chaka Daley arrived in 2012.
